Not What, But How

A couple of weeks ago I was asked to stand in for a vacationing pastor. I’m always glad for the invitation, part for the sake of relating to others and perhaps being a service to them, but also for the focus it enforces on my own mind. As I say in the sermon, it’s a message to me first. Now I’m thinking you might appreciate it too, and possibly gain from it. So I’m sharing it here.

As the title implies, the life that we’re given to live can go just about any way it wants, or we want. God has given us a wide field, with few limits. It’s not so much what we do, but how we do it that interests Him. The talk is about 25 minutes. If you’re short on time you can view it in multiple segments. For access, click on the photo.

You might also be amused at my notes. Not that I refer to them much, or at all, but pages of thought have gone into all this before I make for myself a “picture page.” Being a picture it’s then easier to remember so it works pretty good.  The fact that I gave the sermon four times that weekend also helps. Watch it. Hope you profit.

NEXT time we’ll get back to normal. We’ll see what that is on Monday.

I love the big picture; REST. Sometimes I get to feeling like a branch in the vine that’s having a nervous breakdown trying to produce fruit! It’s comforting to know that salvation is entirely a work of God from start to finish, but it’s also a gift that I get the joy to unwrap. Grace is the gift that keeps on giving as we have the humility to keep on receiving :-)

Hyatt, I truly enjoyed your message and drawing. I was affirmed because I have message outlines that look like that too! It spoke to me today. I’ve been helping several friends through crisis in their families. Your message simply told the truth of God’s plan, and I’m forwarding it to them. Join me in prayer that the Holy Spirit will help them walk in new light and find the goodness God has for them.

When you speak Hyatt, you do what you do best….paint a picture with your words and humor, and help me see what you want to me to see with color texture and beauty.

Had to blog this, brother. Several of my friends loved hearing your message, too, from my post- so thanks! I remember when God gave you that test – or, shortly after. And, cut and paste – you passed, by God’s grace. Such a wonderful testimony! Happy Birthday – so nice you got to hear from God at 69 – so much sooner than Abe did at 99. Some are just slow learners. Me, as well. Walk before God, just don’t do anything wrong. Maybe I’ll get it right by 69 – such a ripe, young age.
