To whom it may concern:

This letter is written to enthusiastically recommend Hyatt Moore as a speaker/presenter at your church.

Hyatt Moore spoke at our Adult Education forum on Sunday, October 14, 2004 and gave a very moving testimony to God’s captivating grace. His presentation consisted of 1) a brief description of the many beautiful paintings that were on display—portraits of men, women, children from around the world, 2) relating his personal journey of faith, 3) an emphasis upon his current calling as artist, and 4) pulling all those themes together as he described the painting, “The Last Supper with Twelve Tribes.”

Not only was Hyatt Moore’s presentation visually overwhelming, the following are some of the comments I heard from members: ‘Breathtaking.’ ‘Grace-full.’ ‘I really, really appreciated the art before he began speaking, but his emphasis upon personal faith, making a difference, taking risks, the world-wide mission—that’s what I’ll remember.’ ‘I felt a part of something great—God’s love for a diverse and beautiful world!’

Gloria Dei Lutheran Church has a wide variety of adult education opportunities (from small groups, large Bible studies, topical presentations, etc.), but we also look for outside speakers that will give a “shot in the arm” and build enthusiasm for Christian learning. We certainly received that from Hyatt Moore. I have heard nothing but positive comments from our people and from my perspective; he was very easy to work with and sensitive to our particular context.

From the comments above, you can tell that I was personally inspired by Hyatt’s paintings and words. Together (the visual and verbal) testified eloquently to the breadth, mystery, and power of God’s grace. If you would like further feedback, please do not hesitate to call me.

Peace,
The Rev. David R. Mattson
